Dubai Lets Masdar City Free Zone Companies Buy Property in the Emirate

July 25, 2025by Muhammad Muneeb

In a big move to support business growth, Dubai Land Department (DLD) has teamed up with Masdar City to allow companies working in its free zone to buy property in Dubai. This change will help more businesses set up long-term operations in the city.

Before this update, companies in free zones—like those in Masdar City—were not allowed to own property directly in Dubai. Now, with this agreement, they can buy land and buildings in areas marked for freehold ownership, as long as they meet the requirements.

A DLD official confirmed on Thursday that the new plan will make the property buying process easier and faster for Masdar-based companies. This supports the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Real Estate Strategy 2033, both of which aim to attract more investors and help the real estate market grow in a sustainable way.

Key features of the agreement include:

  • A clear process for eligible businesses to follow
  • A faster and more transparent registration system
  • Online services for applying, tracking, and document checks
  • Support for companies with legal and administrative steps

“Dubai Land Department signed a memorandum of cooperation with Masdar City, aiming to enable companies and establishments operating in the free zones under Masdar City to own land plots and properties under the freehold ownership system in Dubai, within a clear and comprehensive regulatory framework.”

the authority announced. This move opens the door for a broader class of investors, especially in the green technology and innovation sectors, to establish a physical presence in Dubai.

The signing ceremony was held in Dubai and was attended by senior representatives from both organizations. They also announced the launch of a new digital platform that will help companies apply for property ownership online, track their applications, and check their documents.

Experts believe this update will attract more tech, sustainability, and innovation companies to Dubai. It may also inspire other free zones across the UAE to make similar agreements in the future.
